The greatest miracle

5 For which is easier, to say, Your sins are forgiven, or to say, Rise and walk?

It’s interesting how Jesus healed this crippled man not as a demonstration of power to impress people in itself but to show them how simple such a task was and to back up His words.  By healing the man He demonstrated that He also had the power to back up His words of forgiveness.  It’s easier to say ‘your sins are forgiven’ but it’s not easier to do.  Man is constantly making new discoveries about the human body and developing new methods of healing.  Healing a crippled man can happen through medical techniques and treatments.  But with all the scientific knowledge possible man will never be able to heal the soul.  A doctor can help someone walk but they can’t forgive sins committed against You.

The greatest miracle of all is the forgiveness of sin.  It’s impossible for us to do for someone else.  As the Psalm says:

Psalm 49:7 Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life,8 for the ransom of their life is costly and can never suffice,9 that he should live on forever and never see the pit.

Only Jesus.  Thank You Lord.
