The antidote to fear

Filed under: Uncategorized — andykiff @ 8:23 pm

Matthew 17:7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, Rise, and have no fear.8 And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.

The three disciples that Jesus took up onto the mountain had a strange and unsettling experience.  If it wasn’t enough that Jesus’ face and clothes started glowing, two giants of Israel’s spiritual history suddenly appeared and started talking.  To really freak them out they heard an audible voice from a bright cloud.  It’s perfectly understandable that they would be terrified.  Their fear was banished because of three things: they were touched by Jesus, they listened to Jesus and they looked only at Jesus.

Lord, when I find myself troubled, frightened or unsettled, help me to remember this passage.  Touch me with Your calming hand.  Give me ears to hear Your voice.  Fill my vision to the exclusion of all fear.
