Romans 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, Abba! Father!

For a child to be adopted there needs to be a vacancy for a parent.  The child is alone and needs someone to care, provide, teach, nurture, correct, comfort and love them.  The adopter has no specific reason to choose to count the child as their own and is under no compulsion to do so.  The child has no right to be adopted.  It is an act of unmerited love.  Adoption is grace.

Thank You that I am adopted as Your son, into Your inheritance, not through anything I could do but all because of who You are.
