The wrong man

Mark 15:15 So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

The injustice of this part of the crucifixion story screams louder than any miscarriage of justice in history.  Jesus, the only person in history who could answer ‘not guilty’ without even knowing the charge, is sentenced to torture and excruciating, humiliating, public death.  Barabbas, a proven rebel and murderer, is released.  The guilty walks free and the innocent takes his punishment.

I’m Barabbas.

Jesus took the full force of the punishment that I had earned so that I could walk free.  Amazing love indeed. Almost beyond belief.  Thank You Lord.
