The direct route

Luke 3:4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall become straight, and the rough places shall become level ways,6 and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

John saw his role as getting things ready for Jesus and preparing the people to receive Him.  While he preached a hard and uncompromising message, he saw that as preparing a road that could be followed straight to Jesus.  He was trying to remove the obstacles that would prevent people from receiving and following Jesus.  He was flattening mountains, bridging chasms, plotting a straight road and sweeping it clean so that there was nothing to stop people finding the Christ.

I need to dwell on this.  Do I go out of my way to bridge the gap stopping people from finding the right way?  Do I put obstacles in the way rather than removing them?  What can I do to make it easier for people to meet You?  Lord help me see what I need to stop doing and what I need to start doing that the road to You would be a dead-straight 20-lane superhighway.
