Bringing it home

Filed under: Uncategorized — andykiff @ 1:51 pm

1 Chronicles 16:43 Then all the people departed each to his house, and David went home to bless his household.

David had brought the ark back to Jerusalem and thrown a serious praise party to celebrate.  By the end of it he’d probably be physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted.  He’d then return home to the people who really knew him, to a place where he had other responsibilities.  He didn’t go home, head for his room and shut the door to sleep it off – he went home to bless his household.

This really challenged me as it is so at odds with how I often behave.  I’ll wake up early on a Sunday morning, be at church for six or seven hours, then get home to a wife and two children who want my time and attention.  What I really want to do is go and sit in a quiet room for the rest of the day.  I need to learn from David and have the attitude that I’m going to be a blessing to my family, not someone to be avoided for the rest of the day.  Lord give me the strength to be who I need to be.
