Unselfish

Acts 4:32 Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common.

What a challenge to the age and culture I live in.  What a challenge to me.  I like to think I’m generous when the need arises but I have a keen sense of ‘mine’ and ‘yours’.  I think in terms of ‘worked hard to pay for that’ and ‘my hard-earned cash’.  It’s very easy to see how far away this is from Your ideal.  Nothing I have is really mine.

As long as there’s someone in need and I cling on to the means to meet the need then I’m not hitting the mark.  I can’t even imagine what the church would look like in the twenty-first century if we all lived like this.  Maybe there was a very good reason that the early church drew so many people so  quickly – it wasn’t for the handouts, it was because they demonstrated a love at odds with the world around them.

Lord help me to see the needs around me and meet them as I can, to put Your word into practice and serve as a demonstration of Your love.
