Romans 5:3 More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Training for a marathon isn’t much fun.  Whatever some people may say, it hurts.  It’s inconvenient.  It involves getting out of bed.  It leads to numerous aches and blisters.  But with time, and particularly with those interminably long weekend runs, the improvements are visible.  Distances that were once unthinkable become the norm.  It creates an endurance in the mind, a grim determination to finish.  And through it all comes a feeling that maybe, just maybe, that goal might just be achievable.

Faith is the same process, only faith in You leads to a result that is guaranteed (unlike my marathon times to date).  The journey isn’t straightforward but it does produce results.  It’s not an easy life, and many will happily sit back and watch, but the rewards are endless.

Thank You that You know what will produce results in me, even when I think otherwise.  Give me the strength of mind, body and soul to push on towards the end and to give my last drop of effort as I cross the finish line of life.
