1 Corinthians 16:13 Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.14 Let all that you do be done in love.

It’s interesting how Paul signs off in his final instructions to the Corinthians.  There are some good instructions to the men.  Be aware, unshakeable, strong – all good ‘typical’ manly characteristics, summed up by the command “act like men”.  It’s real chest-out, bicep-flexing, deep-voiced-grunting stuff.  And then he throws in that word that blows a gaping hole through all the potential bravado and machismo.

Being  man is about being strong and unshakeable in love, doing what needs to be done for my family whatever it costs me and doing whatever it takes to show Your love to others.  It’s not the world’s typical view of male behaviour.  It’s much, much tougher, harder, stronger than that.

Lord I need Your help to be who I’m called to be, who I need to be.  Help me to learn from Your example.
