Whose sake?

Titus 1:1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness,

It’s always good to check my motives.  Not just my stated intentions but the real, deep-down need that I’m trying to satisfy.  I need to watch out for self-interest, self-fulfilment… just self in general.  I need to be doing things for Your glory first and for others second, with ‘self’ way down the list.

I like how Paul describes his position in life here.  His roles and titles are in Your name and for the sake of others.  There’s no mention of how it makes him feel, how much joy he gets from his work or how hard it can be at times.  The focus is outwards.

Help me Lord to do everything in Your name, for Your glory and for the sake of Your people, whether they know You yet or not.
