Proverbs 10:19  When words are many, transgression is not lacking,
but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.

I’ve noticed recently that the more people say, the greater the likelihood that they don’t have anything worthwhile to say.  It’s as if the quality of a person’s words are inversely proportional to the quantity.  This verse takes that observation up a notch.  It links the quantity of speech to the quantity of sin.  This makes sense given that the mouth can be a dangerous weapon.  The more it’s used, the more it’s likely to be misused and say something hurtful.

I’m trying to do my best in this area but I know I have a long way to go.  My desire to have the final word often leads me to saying one word too many.

Lord help me to use my words sparingly and for Your purposes.
