Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

There are a million and one things I could spend my time chasing after.  I could try to be organised and draw up a list of what I want to do and the order I should do things in.  I might have to make some sensible choices, like working to provide food, shelter and clothing before I start thinking about leisure activities.   Jesus’ advice here seems wildly impractical.  Chase after You first, even before food, drink and clothing?  How will that pay the bills?

Putting You first is acknowledging that You have control over everything.  It’s admitting that I’m not really in charge of anything.  It’s acknowledging that if I’m following Your will, You’ll give me what I need, however that may come about.  It’s an act of surrender – which is why it can be so hard.

Lord give me faith to chase after You first, knowing that all my needs are covered.
