One in ten

Luke 17:15 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice;16 and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan.17 Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine?

It’s seems like the height of ungratefulness.  Ten lepers are healed of the disease that has destroyed the quality and quantity of their lives and only one in ten returns to thank Jesus.  It’s so outrageous it borders on unbelievable.  How could anyone take for granted such a life-changing act, an unmerited gift, a need that no-one else could meet?  My reponse is that they really didn’t deserve their healing.

And here I am.  Am I really any different?  I’ve had my life turned around through an act of grace.  I’ve had my sin taken away, something that nobody else (especially me) could ever do for me.  I don’t want to be one of the nine who takes the gift for granted.  I want my words and my actions to show my thankfulness, whatever anyone else may do.

Thank You Lord.  For everything and everyday.  Thank You.
