Upside down

Luke 22:26 But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves.27 For who is the greater, one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am among you as the one who serves.

This is another one of those statements that looks crazy by normal worldly standards.  The people with the power and authority willingly giving it up to serve those seen as less than them?  The rich waiting tables for the poor?  It seems to make no sense.  But this wasn’t just something that Jesus said – it’s what he did.

What would happen if everyone put this into practice?  Maybe those being served would take the example that was set for them and begin to give their lives to help others.  Would it turn into a race to the bottom, with everyone trying to outdo each other in humility?  A world where no-one chases power and we’re all trying to love each other more than the next person?  That sounds like my kind of world.  It sounds like Your kind of world.  I just need to start living it if I want to see it.

Today I don’t need to ask You for help with something, I just need to do it.  Thank You for setting the example to follow.
