Opportunities for grace

Filed under: Uncategorized — andykiff @ 10:20 pm

Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?

Grace is good, yes?  I think that’s taken as read.  Having my sins forgiven for free? Fantastic.  Paul spots the potential problem here though.  If sin creates opportunities for grace, and grace is good, then should I stop caring about sin if it’s all taken care of?  More than that, should I be actively sinning to get more grace?  In Paul’s words, by no means.

In a crude and probably flawed analogy, grace is like a medicine.  If I have the sickness, I need the medicine.  If I’m cured, why would I want the sickness again just to receive more medicine?  I should be getting on with living illness-free and letting other people with the same sickness know that there is a cure.

You have forgiven me – I don’t want to keep needing forgiveness.  I fail, and You still accept me, but I don’t want to fail.  I want to be a conduit for grace, passing on what I receive rather than continually needing filling up to cover my failings.

Lord help me to live a life that’s not tangled up with sin.  Help me to pass Your grace on in gratitude for what You’ve done for me.
