Two masters

2 Kings 17:41 So these nations feared the Lord and also served their carved images. Their children did likewise, and their children’s children—as their fathers did, so they do to this day.

Let me get this straight… after the Assyrians exiled the people of Israel, they resettled the land with other nations that they’d conquered.  They didn’t worship You and things were going badly for them, so they turned to You and got the help they needed.  However, despite clear proof that You are real and powerful, they carried on worshipping their own handmade idols as well.  What sort of thought process (or lack of) was at work here?

It’s actually a familiar story: following You up to a point but still looking to other things for my security, my fulfilment, my comfort.  You should be everything – there should be no need for additional ‘gods’ to cover the gaps.

Lord give me complete satisfaction in You.  Help me to really know that You are everything I need.
