Search me

Psalm 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!

This is a Psalm of wonder at Your works, of understanding Your omniscience, omnipotence and omnipresence.  There’s no escaping You, even if I wanted to.  You are too strong, You are everywhere, You know me better than I will ever know myself.  You know my very thoughts before I think them.

The psalmist comes to the only logical conclusion in a fight that can’t be won: unconditional surrender.  You are invited to search out the heart and mind, to highlight the impurities and to lead to eternal life.  I know my heart and my thoughts and I know that there is much that shouldn’t be there.  But I know that I want to walk Your way and become more like You.

Search me, Lord, show me where I need to change and lead me in Your ways.
