Acts 1:3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

New year, new reading plan, new Bible translation.  I decided to go for the King James Version, not because I believe it to be superior in any way to other translations.  I want to get a different feel, with alternative language and poetry, to see if certain words that have been translated into modern language have lost something in that translation.

The word ‘passion’ really stood out for me here.  In most translations this is written as suffering and/or death.  That may be closer to the meaning of the original manuscripts but I like this word.  Passion suggests a burning intensity.  It’s something that drives action, consumes time and attention and gives direction and fulfilment.  Jesus’ passion was for people, culminating in his sacrifice on the cross.  He gave everything he had, even his very life, for his passion.

Lord give me this same burning desire for the lost, to feel what You feel and to want what You want.  Let Your passion be my passion.
