If You Want

Matthew 8:2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

If I’m not careful, prayer can end up like a shopping list.  I tell You what I need and wait for You to deliver it.  That shouldn’t be how it works.  The leper in this story seemed to understand what’s most important.  He started by worshipping.  It wasn’t about his own problems, his disease, the way he was treated by society – he just focused on putting Jesus first.  Even his request for healing wasn’t really a request, let alone a demand.  He simply acknowledged that Jesus had the ability to heal. This was part of his worship.  He was more interested in who Jesus was than what he could gain from this encounter.  He knew that Jesus could heal and that was enough for him.

I need to pray like this, which mirrors the Lord’s Prayer: You are given the focus and worshipping You takes priority.  I need to acknowledge that You are able to meet any request I put before You if You want to.  I don’t need to worry about Your ability to see it through – if it’s in Your plan it will happen.

Thank You Lord that You are able.  Nothing is impossible for You.
