It could seem like the priests always got the raw deal in Israel. As well as having the spiritual responsibility of the nation on their shoulders and a higher standard of holiness than the rest of the people, the Levites didn’t get an allocation of land like the other tribes. They were reliant on the leftovers from the offerings for their food.
In other ways that sounds like a perfect situation. They had more direct access to Your presence. They shared in Your share of the nation’s produce. They weren’t burdened with the same pressures of material ownership that the others faced. Above everything, they got You. You are worth far more than any land or possessions, which are at Your command to give or take away.
The awesome fact is that, through Jesus, I can have this same connection that was once only open to a certain tribe. You are my inheritance. Thank You Lord.
